Digital Jam…your face

Here's a summary from @adverplanner of our latest clash of techno-web-geeks, each pitting their top Internet finds against one another. We call it Digital Jam and everyone is welcome.

The Coke Zero Facial Profiler hit the media a few weeks back, but has just been launched as a Facebook app. The profiler scans through photos on Facebook to find your lookalike using "the industry’s most advanced facial profiling software".

clip_image002Uploading a photo is rather counter-intuitive and it ignores the fact there may be a large number of photos of you already on Facebook. Instead, it asks for a ‘control image’ from a webcam or desktop photo. After some cropping and adjusting, I’m left waiting in a queue while other users get ‘matched’. One after one, very similar faces flash up, each profile ‘matched’ with someone identical, ready to connect, become Facebook friends and drink Coke Zero together for eternity.

Finally my long lost twin is revealed. Autumn Kea looks fantastic, and has a great taste in sunglasses, but I don’t think I’ll be contacting her (I refuse to befriend people named after seasons).

The app works well, it’s fun to use and the connection to the brand and campaign message is clear. What isn’t clear though is what happens to my photos. I’m slightly concerned that both mine, and Autumn’s, images are now being seen by other Coke Zero ‘matchers’. Maybe I should contact her after all and warn her...?

Next up; House Bling from homeless charity Shelter. Every year we see it; quaint English streets, ruined by tacky decorations that would have Scrooge turning in his grave. Thankfully Shelter have created House Bling, allowing you to digitally decorate your home using Google Street View. We had a pop at decorating the Wunderman office. Merry tacky Christmas! Of course, there's a serious message here about the time and money we spend on Christmas decorations, while others are homeless. You can make a donation directly from the site, or by clicking here.

Finally, Let Them Sing It For You has been around the web for a while, but we’ve finally found a use for it. The site is a mashup tool and a database of songs that enable you to create a personalised audio message. It’s a fun little gimmick, but quite limited. The real skill appears to be in choosing words that sound any good. In true Christmas fashion, here’s our effort. Have a crack and post your best in the comments!

Hello Autumn! What a coincidence that you found our blog post. I must apologise for not adding you as a friend on Facebook when it identified us as 'twins'. It was more for research purposes...

But now, here we are, finally connected through the wonders of the web and search. The internet is a wonderful thing...nearly as wonderful as your sunglasses.

Out of interest - did you upload your own photo to the profiler, or did it pull it without your consent?
